Quadratic Equation

Quadratic equations have the form a x2+b x + c =0 where A quadratic equation with real coefficients can have none, one or two distinct real roots. To find them, use the Quadratic Formula.

Equations with fractions

1. Rewrite without fractions by multiplying both sides by the least common denominator.
2. Combine like terms.
3. Collect variables on one side and constants on the other.
4. Divide by the coefficient of the variable.

Solving Linear Equations

An equation is a mathematical statement that is only true for some unknown variables, usually represented by a letter such as xSolving an equation means manipulating the expressions and finding the value of the unknown variablesIn order to solve for the unknown variable, you must isolate the variable To keep an equation equal, we must do exactly the same thing to each side of the equation. If we add (or subtract) a quantity from one side, we must add (or subtract) that same quantity from the other side.

Multiple operations

Remember the rules for order of operations:
1. First perform any calculations inside square brackets.

2. Next perform any calculations inside parentheses.
3. Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.
4. Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right

Adding and subtracting fractions

Adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator You can add and subtract like fractions easily - simply add or subtract the numerators and write the sum over the common denominator.
Adding and subtracting fractions with different denominator Before you can add or subtract fractions with different denominators, you must first find equivalent fractions with the same denominator, like this:
Find the smallest multiple (LCM) of both numbers.
Rewrite the fractions as equivalent fractions with the LCM as the denominator.

Reducing to the Least Common Denominator

To reduce a fraction to the Least Common Denominator, you must factor each of the denominators into primes. Then for each different prime number in all of the factorizations, do the following...
1. Count the number of times each prime number appears in each of the factorizations.
2. For each prime number, take the largest of these counts and write the result.
3. The least common denominator is the product of all the prime numbers written down.

Simplifying (Reducing) Fractions

Simplify or reduce a fraction is to get the numerator and denominator as small as possible. Remember you can divide the numerator and the denominator by any number... as long as you use the same number for both!
